Copyediting and Proofreading

for non-fiction authors, academics, and publishers

Sick of reading your own words?

If you’ve had enough of staring at your manuscript, can’t see the typos, or you’re not even sure if your writing makes sense any more, then it’s time to bring in a professional.

I can weed out funky grammar, untangle clunky sentences, and give you positive, encouraging feedback to help you refine your writing.

About the Editor

Kia ora, I’m Deborah

A detail-focused copyeditor and proofreader with over a decade of publishing experience.

I’m an editor, but I don’t wield a red pen.

Sure, I edit for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but I also respect your writing style and encourage you to lean into your voice. If that means ignoring some dusty old grammar “rules” in favour of rhythm and tone, then let’s embrace that.

Deborah smiles at the camera. She has brown hair swept to one side and she wears round glasses.

What do you need me to edit?

I’ll edit for clarity and meaning, offering suggestions for strengthening your prose and honing your argument, with plenty of encouragement along the way.

And of course I’ll sort out all the grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

I’ll tidy up the grammar and untangle wordy sentences so you can focus on what you do best: presenting your research.

I can also format your thesis and wrangle your citations.

“We are grateful to Deborah, whose highly professional copyediting saved us potential embarrassment in many instances. Her sharp-eyed attention to detail revealed numerous literals and errors that had escaped us. Deborah’s prompt work and clear comments made the editing process easy for us.”
